Clinical trials at MPTC provide the option of direct access to innovative therapies, often years before they may be in widespread use.

What is a clinical trial?

Clinical trials are conducted to test new drugs, procedures or behavior changes for either prevention or treatment of a disease. The medical community relies on clinical trials for important discoveries that can raise the quality of life or potentially cure those suffering from a disease.

Why consider a clinical trial?

The understanding and treatment of cancer has advanced over the years due in large part to the additional knowledge clinical trials have provided the health and scientific communities. Each participant in a clinical trial is doing a service to the larger battle against cancer and the advancement of medicine.

How are clinical trials conducted?

Every clinical trial is conducted with a set of rules known as protocol, which explain the selection process for participants as well as the ways in which the trial will be conducted and administered.

Not all patients will be eligible for a clinical trial. Criteria for participation may include age, medical history, current health and previous treatment. These guidelines for participation provide greater confidence that the results of a trial are based on the effectiveness of the treatment.
